Costa Careyes
Costa Careyes is a private community on the Jalisco coast, set into headlands and jungle above a string of small bays. It is known for its architecture — saturated pigment against green — and for how little of it there is.
It was founded in the late 1960s by Gian Franco Brignone, and planned as a low-density retreat rather than a resort. Villas and casitas sit apart from one another on the cliffs above beaches like Playa Rosa, Teopa and Careyitos, with controlled access and no passing traffic. Most houses come with their own staff, and the day tends to be organised around the water, the polo field or doing very little.
The name comes from the hawksbill turtle — carey in Spanish — which still nests on these beaches; releases run through the season. Careyes is roughly a three-hour drive south of Puerto Vallarta, and closer to Manzanillo. We confirm the right airport for the villa you choose and arrange the transfer.

Careyes works differently from a resort destination. There is no strip, no lobby and very little to walk to; the houses are the destination, and most of them come with the staff to run them — housekeeping, a cook or full chef, a caretaker, and someone who can arrange a boat, a table or a horse at short notice.
The architecture is the reason most people come. Brignone’s casitas and castles are built in saturated pigment — rose, ochre, cobalt — set against jungle and open Pacific, with palapa roofs, open-sided rooms and pools cut into the cliff edge. Almost nothing is enclosed. It photographs well, but the point is how it lives: you are outdoors from the moment you wake.
Groups tend to book here for milestone trips — birthdays, family reunions, small weddings — because a single house can hold everyone and the setting does the work. Holiday weeks book furthest ahead and carry the longest minimum stays.

How do we get to Costa Careyes?
Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and Manzanillo (ZLO) both serve this coast. Manzanillo is the shorter drive; Puerto Vallarta has far more international connections and is roughly three hours away. We confirm which suits your villa and arrange the ground transfer.
Is there a town, or restaurants nearby?
Not in the way a resort town works. There are a small number of places to eat within and around the community, but Careyes is largely self-contained — most guests eat at the villa, where a cook or private chef is either included or arranged for the stay.
Are the beaches private?
The beaches sit below the houses and access into the community is controlled, so in practice they are quiet and lightly used. Which beach you are closest to depends on the villa — Playa Rosa, Teopa and Careyitos are all within the area.
What is there to do besides the villa?
Polo and riding, boats and fishing, and walking or biking the jungle tracks between the bays. Sea turtles nest on these beaches and releases run through the season. Beyond that, the honest answer is that people come here to do very little.
